ForMin Odobescu: Safety of Romanians in Lebanon – a priority of our country

Published on

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, on Tuesday received the representatives of the Group of accredited Arab ambassadors in Bucharest, in which context she thanked them for facilitating the repatriation of 212 Romanian citizens from Lebanon, and reminded them that their safety is a priority of our country.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to AGERPRES, the discussions focused on the security situation in the Middle East, especially the recent developments along the Israeli-Lebanese border, and the need to immediately identify solutions that would lead to the de-escalation of tensions and avoid an escalation in the region.

The Romanian official expressed concern about the volatility of the situation in the Middle East, which has the potential to degenerate into a conflict on an even wider scale, with multiple civilian victims of all parties involved. In this regard, he called for the use of all available diplomatic channels to identify potential solutions that could lead to the reduction of tensions, a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, the protection of the civilian population and at the same time the continuation of humanitarian aid for the affected civilians.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs informed about the humanitarian efforts carried out by Romania since the beginning of the crisis in the Gaza Strip, namely the numerous installments of humanitarian aid, as well as the taking over of some pediatric patients, highlighting that they will continue in the future. At the same time, he recalled that Romania promptly responded to the requests received from the Lebanese authorities, with a humanitarian flight to Beirut taking place on October 4.
