Forty Romanian firefighters left for Greece, ready for action in Attica

Published on

Forty Romanian firefighters and two rapid response vehicles have arrived at the base of operations in the Attica region in Greece to add up to the crews of the Romanian module previously deployed in Attica.

The transport was carried out by two aircraft of the Romanian Air Force.

„The other two wildfire extinguishing trucks arrived at the base during the night, staffed by four rescue firefighters, who moved by land, so that all resources will be fully operational, thus contributing to the intensification of efforts to fight the fires that threaten the Greek communities,” according to Romania’s General Emergency management Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU).

The members of Romania’s modules will carry out patrolling and monitoring missions in the areas of Rafina, Plaka and Lavrio.

„The integration of these forces ensures effective coordination and a strengthened operational force on the ground, thus increasing Romania’s response capacity in support of the Greek authorities and communities, seriously affected by the fires in this country.”

Between August 1 and September 15, DSU, through IGSU, participates with the specialised national forest fire extinguishing module in the pre-positioning programme organised by the European Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations – DG ECHO, in order to strengthen the resilience of Greece in managing this type of risk.
