French Institute head, Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi, is new president of EUNIC Romania

The managing director of the French Institute in Romania, Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi, is the new president of EUNIC Romania, and the director of the Italian Institute of Culture, Laura Napolitano, is the vice-president of the cluster, a press release from the French Institute, sent to Agerpres.

The rotating presidency of the EUNIC Romania cluster was taken over from the Polish Institute and the Czech Center on Tuesday during a meeting of EUNIC Romania members, hosted by the president of the Romanian Cultural Institute, Liviu Jicman, at the ICR headquarters.

Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi, the managing director of the French Institute, spoke about the strategic directions of this presidency, held in the year in which Timisoara is the European Capital of Culture.

The EUNIC cluster will contribute to the cultural agenda within this framework and will bring a breath of fresh air through cultural activities aimed at restoring European cultural diversity in Timisoara. During this Franco-Italian presidency, the inter-institutional collaboration between the members of EUNIC Romania and the institutions of Romanian culture will go on and will diversify. EUNIC promotes culture as a social bond and supports cooperation between the cultural and creative industries in Romania and in Europe. The support given to culture in all its forms, but also the reflection upon its role in our European societies are essential points in the current context and are founding principles of the EUNIC Romania mission. In accordance with the European agenda for culture and the objectives of cultural sovereignty of the European Union, the cluster will undertake actions to promote artistic and media education, to improve the status of artists, to defend the rights of authors. Also, EUNIC Romania members will pay special attention to the promotion of multilingualism, said Chiappone-Lucchesi, quoted in the press release.

The EUNIC Romania cluster was founded in 2008 and is one of the most active in the network, with a series of annual events including: the Night of European Literature, the Academy of Cultural Management, the European Day of Languages, the Month of European Literature or the Cinefemina Festival.

The members of EUNIC Romania are the Romanian Cultural Institute, the French Institute of Romania, the Italian Institute of Culture, the Polish Institute, the Czech Center, the Goethe Institut, the British Council, the Cervantes Institute, the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Camoes Institute, the Greek Cultural Foundation, the Liszt Institute – the Hungarian Cultural Center Bucharest, Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Institute, Embassy of Spain, Embassy of Sweden, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Embassy of Bulgaria, Embassy of Georgia, Embassy of Tunisia.
