The Gendarmerie rejected on Monday the information that images of a law enforcement intervention at the metro, which appeared on TikTok, were related to the pro-Georgescu protest on Sunday evening at the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC).

„In the past few hours, a video has been circulating on TikTok showing an intervention by the Gendarmerie at the metro, falsely associated with the events from last night. The clip presents old footage from a sports event that took place five years ago. We urge citizens to verify the sources of information before sharing them and to rely on official communications to avoid misinformation,” said the Gendarmerie Press Office.

According to the quoted source, the spreading of such out-of-context images only creates confusion and unnecessarily escalates the situation.

„We encourage you not to spread unverified information and to consult official channels for accurate and updated data,” said the Gendarmerie representatives.

The Romanian Gendarmerie’s Press Office also warned that there is an ongoing „disinformation campaign” on multiple TikTok and Facebook accounts regarding the incidents from the evening of March 9 at the protest in the centre of the Capital, „aimed at manipulating citizens through the spread of false information.”

„All this information is false and aims to manipulate citizens with the purpose of provoking incidents. Additionally, this type of messaging supports posts from an individual who is outside of Romania, wanted for attempting to commit actions against the constitutional order, and who encourages citizens to commit violent incidents,” the quoted source warned.

The Gendarmerie urges citizens not to share unverified information, as doing so supports those who seek to manipulate and misinform the public and provoke violence.
