Global peace and prosperity are are inextricably linked to gender equity, and when women are economically empowered, they reinvest in their families and communities, creating a ripple effect that drives economic growth and contributes to peace and stability, U.S. ambassador to Romania Kathleen Kavalec said at the Female Empowerment Summit in Bucharest on Monday.
„We must also look ahead to the industries and innovations that are shaping our future data-driven sectors like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and international trade. It is critical that women are not only included but are leaders in these fields,” the diplomat remarked, and went on to say that „This week’s summit places a special focus on culture, heritage, and traditions, a powerful theme that reminds us that gender equality does not exist in isolation. Our traditions, values, and histories are crucial in shaping the path forward. By empowering women, we honor not only their individual potential but also the rich cultural heritage they carry with them – a heritage that strengthens the fabric of our communities. Let us leave here today energized, with a renewed commitment to advancing gender equality and recognizing that we build a better world for all by empowering women.”
The U.S. ambassador to Romania stressed that the Female Empowerment Summit is dedicated not only to the empowerment of women, but also to role that women play in nurturing national traditions, culture, and entrepreneurship in both Romania and the United States, and also brought to mind that in October 2021 President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris released the United States’ first-ever National Gender Strategy, which recognized the need to do more to accomplish the goal of achieving full gender equality in the United States.
This strategy represents a clear commitment to advancing the empowerment of women and girls across all sectors of society, and also serves as a foundation for the work the U.S. Embassy does with its partnership in Romania, the basis for American support for important local initiatives, Kathleen Kavalec concluded.
