Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu announced that the Government will approve in Wednesday’s meeting the increase of the tax ceiling for pensions in the public order and public security national system.
Around 200,000 people will benefit from this measure, the prime minister said at the start of the government meeting.
„Today we are approving the increase in the tax ceiling for pensions in the public order and public security national system. Practically, we bring them to the same level as the other public pensions, where we have already legislated raising the ceiling from 2,000 to 3,000 RON, starting October 1. About 200,000 Romanians will benefit from this new measure, which is an act of social equity,” said Marcel Ciolacu.
He added that he will take on the task of solving the problems signaled by miners and people with disabilities regarding pensions.
„We are now also working on solving the problems of miners and disabled pensioners. I take it upon myself to solve the problems of these people. They are not guilty because the state has changed the retirement rules several times, out of momentary interests. However, rest assured that I will solve it through dialogue with the European Commission, reaching a correct understanding, not through populist actions, with ghost projects now submitted in Parliament, which amend the law adopted last year under the PNRR and voted by all parties,” Ciolacu said.
The prime minister announced on Tuesday evening that he will meet with representatives of miners and workers on Friday to discuss the way their pensions will be recalculated.
„There are these two categories, on Friday I am meeting them. (…) Miners and people with disabilities, including the visually impaired, who are 2,500 people in retirement at the moment. I had a meeting with people with disabilities, I understood, I asked the Labor minister to find solutions. Naturally, I will communicate them with the Commission and I will solve this problem. I have a meeting on Friday also with the miners’ representatives,” said the prime minister on private broadcaster Antena 3.
He also announced that a legislative provision on tax exemption for military and police officers will be corrected at the government meeting on Wednesday.
