The Government okayed, in Thursday’s meeting, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on military cooperation between the Ministries of Defense of Romania and Egypt, which establishes the necessary framework for military collaboration between the two states.

According to a press release from the Government, the Memorandum of Understanding seeks to strengthen military cooperation by expanding and intensifying joint military relations, as well as developing existing relations through the exchange of information, as well as strengthening ties of cooperation and mutual understanding.

„The targeted areas are the training of military personnel, medicine and logistics, environmental protection, peacekeeping operations, defense planning, education, defense industries, cultural and sports activities,” the release states.

The Arab Republic of Egypt represents one of the oldest and most important partners of Romania among the Arab states, with diplomatic relations between Romania and Egypt having been established in 1906. Romania, with an important role in the process of strengthening relations between the European Union and Egypt, supports the cooperation between the two sides, especially in formats such as the EU-Egypt Association Council, the quoted source informs.
