Gov’t to approve funding for two big railway projects

Published on

The Government will approve in Wednesday’s meeting the funding of two railway projects already started, Cluj – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor and Caransebes – Timisoara – Arad, over 320 kilometres, supported by the National Resilience and Recovery Plan (PNRR).

The European Investment Bank will provide a 600 million euro, part of the financing for these investments, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said at the beginning of the Cabinet meeting.

„It concerns the electrification and rehabilitation of the Cluj – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor line and the modernisation of the Caransebes – Timisoara – Arad railway line,” Ciolacu said.

The government will also approve investments in the Port of Constanta, as well as in road infrastructure in Vaslui.

„We continue to invest in the development of the Port of Constanta, Romania’s strategic objective. The aim is to transform it into a logistic hub at the Black Sea. We are financing with over 750 million lei rehabilitation works to ensure a second rail access to the Port of Constanta. We maintain the pace of investments in road infrastructure and approve the first funds for the Vaslui bypass. We are also allocating over 500 million lei to rehabilitate the 36-kilometre national road Giurgiu – Ghimpati,” Ciolacu said.
