The government will support the activities of religious denominations in order to capitalize to an even greater extent their potential in the social-philanthropic, medical and educational fields, prime minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday, according to a press release from the Executive.

The prime minister, together with other representatives of the state, had a meeting with representatives of the recognized religious denominations in Romania on Wednesday, during which topics related to religious life were discussed, as well as the perspectives of strengthening the partnership between the state and cults

According to the Government’s release, in recent months there have been several legislative changes with an impact in the field of religious life, among which those regarding the support for the salary of clerical and non-clerical personnel, the diversification of the financial support given to the religious denominations, according to their needs and requests, especially in the field of social and medical assistance, as well as the reorganization of the State Secretariat for Religious Denominations.

The leaders of the religious denominations sent suggestions regarding the concrete forms of dialogue with the state.

The Senate president, Nicolae Ciuca, also participating in the event, emphasized, in a post on Facebook, that there are common objectives with the religious denominations.
