Heat wave to grip 15 counties and Bucharest, Thursday and Friday

The National Weather Administration (ANM) has issued Code Yellow and Code Orange heat warnings for 15 counties and Bucharest Municipality, on Thursday and Friday.

According to forecasters, southern and eastern Oltenia, northern Muntenia and most of Dobrogea will be under a Code Yellow for hot weather on August 22. Thermal discomfort will be high, and maximum temperatures will be generally range between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius.

At the same time, also during this day, the wind will pick up temporarily in the east, southeast and extreme southwest of the country.

A Code Orange for heatwave and severe heat discomfort will be in force in most of Muntenia and southwest Dobrogea. The temperature-humidity index (TIU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units, and the maximum temperatures will range between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius, while the night will be tropical, locally, with lows between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius.

The counties affected by the two codes are: Arges, Braila, Buzau, Calarasi, Constanta, Dambovita, Dolj, Giurgiu, Ilfov, Ialomita, Olt, Prahova, Tulcea, Teleorman, Valcea and Bucharest.

A Code Yellow heat warning is in effect on Friday, August 23, for southern and eastern Oltenia, most of Muntenia and continental Dobrogea, where temperatures ranging between 34 – 36 degrees will be recorded. At night, temperatures will hover between 17 – 21 degrees Celsius.

The counties of Arges, Braila, Buzau, Calarasi, Constanta, Dambovita, Dolj, Ialomita, Olt, Prahova, Tulcea and Valcea will be unde a Code Yellow.

At the same time, a Code Orange warning of particularly hot weather will be in effect in the counties of Teleorman, Giurgiu, Ilfov and Bucharest. In these areas, the heat wave will persist for the eleventh day in a row, the ITU will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units and, in general, the maximum temperatures will range between 36 – 37 degrees, and the minimum between 20 – 21 degrees Celsius.

The Capital area will continue to be affected by a heat wave, with high thermal discomfort, August 22, 10:00 to August 24, 10:00. There will be variable cloud and clear spells with a light and moderate breeze. On Thursday, the maximum temperature will range between 37 – 38 degrees, while on Friday it will reach 36 degrees. Lows will hover between 18 – 21 degrees Celsius.

ANM said that in the coming days, the heat wave will grip most of the country.
