Over 70 film productions will be presented at the Hungarian Film Days, an event that will take place in Cluj-Napoca from October 4 to October 8, 2023, write Agerpres.
„More than 70 feature and short films – art films, documentaries and animated films, a selection of the best recent Hungarian productions and cult films await Cluj filmgoers this year, between October 4 and 8, at Filmtettfeszt – Hungarian Film Days 2023,” reads a press release the event organisers sent on Monday.
The official opening of Filmtettfeszt will take place on Wednesday at 17:30 at the Victoria cinema, with the screening of Control (Kontroll), the most successful Hungarian cult film of the last two decades.
„Made in an era dominated by art films, the US-raised filmmaker, with a background in music video production, took a free and bold approach to genre. Control was the first Hungarian film shot entirely in the Budapest subway, and though it mixes elements of comedy, romance, social drama and psychothriller, its images remain balanced and exciting. His everyday heroes are the subway ticket inspectors who try to do their sometimes humiliating and sometimes dangerous job amidst the contempt of passengers,” the release added.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the film’s protagonist, Csanyi Sandor. Many of the screenings in Cluj will also include meetings with the film crews.
„In the Hungarian Masterpieces category, filmgoers will be able to watch the films Daniel Catches the Train / Szerencses Daniel (dir. Sandor Pal), Whooping Cough / Szamarkohoges (dir. Gardos Peter), Flowers, Petals, Crowns / Szirmok, viragok, koszoruk (dir. Lugossy Laszlo). For the first time this year, on October 7, starting at 18:30 at Cinema Arta, the Filmtettfest audience will be able to watch a selection of five short films by Vojvodina filmmakers,” the organisers say.
Another highlight of the festival programme is Filmgalop, a competition of Hungarian documentaries from Transylvania. This year 8 talented young people will present their creations (…) – the public will vote online. The films in the competition are very varied both in terms of (sub)genre and style – they reflect the complex way young Transylvanian filmmakers think and feel about their native region.
The Yellow Foal Prize, awarded annually during the Hungarian Film Days, will be received by Lakatos Robert, director from Cluj.
Also, the films made in the Filmett Workshop creative camp that took place this summer in Sanvasii, Mures county, will be shown for the first time during the Hungarian Film Days. This year, the Filmtett Association’s summer camp, which functions as a miniature film factory, produced four live action short films and six animated films, and as a bonus, the team of cinematographers made their own cinematography study and the team of actors made a short film based on the improvised script and the directorial instructions of their mentor, Hajdu Szabolcs.
Screenings at the Hungarian Film Days will also take place – with the help of local co-organisers – in 15 other Transylvanian cities: Timisoara, Arad, Oradea, Satu Mare, Baia Mare, Gherla, Savadisla, Sibiu, Brasov, Sfantu Gheorghe, Targu Secuiesc, Covasna, Gheorgheni, Miercurea Ciuc and Odorheiu Secuiesc.
