Hungary reaffirms support for Romania’s accession to land Schengen

Hungary, through the voice of the Minister for European Affairs of of the Hungarian gov’t, Janos Boka, in the perspective of Hungary taking over the mandate of the six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union, between July 1 and December 31, reaffirms its support for Romania’s full accession to the Schengen area.

The minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, who received on Wednesday the Hungarian minister for European Affairs Janos Boka, on a visit to Romania, evoked the European and international context marked by multiple challenges, as well as the transition period between two European electoral cycles, on the basis of which Hungary will coordinate the efforts to advance the Union’s agenda.

In particular, Luminita Odobescu recalled the security challenges generated by the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, but also the worrying developments in other regions.

The Romanian minister emphasized the special interest in advancing the decisions regarding the EU enlargement policy in relation to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, the release added.
