Europe not only has good ideas, but also knows how to apply them and do it in a decisive way, and when it comes to IT, I have to say that in Romania, it is on the right side of our history, said Manuela Catrina, deputy director of the National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC), at the International Summit & Gala Award 2024 on Wednesday.
„There are synergies that show that Europe not only has good ideas, but also knows how to apply them and do it in a decisive way (…) When we talk about regulation, most of the time, when I talk to industry, they say that regulation is not something that they like, because it costs money. I have to say, though, that IT in Romania is on the good side of our history. You are on the side that can use that money and that can do more business, because regulation brings a new line of business speed, in risk management, risk assessment, compliance (…) Another discussion, this time with the industry, would be about what we teach our children. My bet would be not only on maths, science, philosophy and physics, but also on the delicate side of the creative side, the side that only we humans can do. I conclude by saying that with both the EU AI Directive and the NIS2 Directive, but especially the AI Act, we have managed to find the right balance,” Catrina said.
In the view of the DNSC representative, with the EU Artificial Intelligence Regulation, „it’s not just about profit and it’s not just about control”, but „it should also be about building a new economy”.
The Employers’ Association of the Software and Services Industry (ANIS) organised on Wednesday the International Summit & Gala Award event, during which the Romanian IT Industry Excellence Awards will be presented.
At this year’s edition of the competition, 26 proposals from 20 companies advance to the final stage.
Established in 1998, ANIS represents the interests of Romanian IT companies and supports the development of the local software and services industry, the growth of both companies involved in outsourcing projects and those generating intellectual property by creating products. ANIS has over 170 members, representing both companies with Romanian and foreign capital, small or multinational companies, with headquarters in all major IT hubs in the country.
ANIS members generate a significant number of highly qualified jobs. With a representation of over 65% of the total revenues generated by the IT industry at national level and approximately 42% of the total employees of the IT industry in Romania.
