Independent Member of the European Parliament Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI) has asked the European Commission for a written answer on protecting and respecting Europe’s cultural identity within the institutions of the European Union.
Below is the full text of the questions submitted by Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI), an independent member of the European Parliament. EC:
„The European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the European Union only have observer status within the High Council [IUE, Rules of Procedure of the High Council, Article 1(1)(b)]. The European University Institute is funded by contributions from the Member States based on their membership of the European Union, but also from the EU budget, which is allocated through various educational and research programs.
In view of these considerations:
- 1. How does the European Commission intend to protect Europe’s cultural identity within the institutions of the European Union?
- 2. Is it not considered appropriate to amend the observer status of the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the European Union within the High Council [IUE, Rules of Procedure of the High Council, Article 1(1)(b)] so that one of the most important holidays for Europeans, Christmas, is not considered offensive or exclusive?
