Independent Member of the European Parliament Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI), who attended the debates on the need to ensure democratic pluralism and strengthen policies on integrity, transparency, and the fight against corruption in the EU, in Strasbourg, said that he had noted two important ideas, namely that representative democracy is based solely on free elections and that citizens must inform themselves – it is their right – from a plurality of sources, but that in Romania these two fundamental principles are not respected.

„Madam President, Commissioner, I took away two important ideas from your speech, namely that representative democracy is based solely on free elections and that citizens must inform themselves – it is their right – from a variety of sources.
And if I were to tell you that in Romania, the country I come from, these two fundamental principles are not respected at all!?”
