Independent Member of the European Parliament Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI) said during debates in Strasbourg that Romania is a country that has achieved something spectacular: in 1989, it managed to pay off all its debts. Today, after 35 years of democracy, we have 210 billion in debt.
Independent MEP Lazarus (NI):
„Because, as you probably know, Romania is a country that has achieved something spectacular: in 1989, it managed to pay off all its debts. Today, after 35 years of democracy – and it was a dictatorship – we have 210 billion in debt. How did we get into this situation? Because of corrupt, lying politicians who, of course, respected nothing, not even democracy.
So what kind of democracy was this? It was not a democracy, it was a dictatorship with gloves on. It was a dictatorship which, when it saw that it was losing the elections, canceled the elections, banned candidates, took off its gloves, tore up the Constitution and took the people to task, in the sense that it sent the coercive authorities out in the morning to arrest people and search them because they had the nerve to elect someone who had actually won the elections.
