India is enjoying the Hollywood triumph of the Indian film „RRR”, rewarded with a Golden Globe for „best original song”, despite competition from American superstars such as Taylor Swift and Rihanna, AFP reports, Agerpres reads.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, hailed this „very special achievement” after the victory of „Naatu Naatu”, an original song composed by M.M. Keeravani for the soundtrack of the movie „RRR”, directed by S.S. Rajamouli.
„This prestigious award has filled all Indians with pride,” Modi wrote on Twitter. According to local media, it is the first time that an Indian film has received an award at the Golden Globes.
Certain fragments of the video and the film were played in front of the official residence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2021, before the Russian invasion.
”RRR”, a spoken word film in the Telugu language used in South India, was produced in March last year and has seen considerable audience success for a local film, both in the country and abroad.
„RRR” was also nominated in the „best foreign film” category, where it was overtaken by the film „Argentina, 1985”. Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan was also among those who expressed his joy for the award.
„Woke up and started dancing to ‘Naatu Naatu’ to celebrate your win at the Golden Globes,” he wrote on Twitter, referring to the success of director S.S. Rajamouli. „I wish you to take many more awards and make India proud!”
The Indian film industry, dominated by Hindi-language Bollywood, is the most prolific in the world, producing thousands of films each year, distributed mainly in South Asia, Central Asia and Africa.
