Industrial production decreases 2.5% in January

Industrial production decreased in January 2025 by 2.5% as gross series compared to the same month of the previous year, and increased 2.1% as seasonally adjusted series, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Compared to December 2024, industrial production in January 2025 decreased 2.3% gross series and increased 2% as seasonally adjusted series.

In the first month of the current year, industrial production (gross series) dropped 2.3% compared to December 2024, due to declines in the extractive industry (-8.3%) and manufacturing industry (-2.4%). Production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased by 0.8%.

Industrial production, seasonally adjusted, was higher in January compared to the previous month by 2%, as a result of increases recorded in all three industrial sectors: manufacturing (+2.0%), extractive industry (+1.6%) and the production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+0.7%).

Compared to the same month of the previous year, industrial production (gross series) decreased in January 2025 by 2.5%, due to declines in the production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water, and air conditioning (-4.8%) and manufacturing (-2.3%). The extractive industry increased 1.1%.

Industrial production, seasonally adjusted, was higher than in the same month of the previous year by 2.1%, due to increases recorded in manufacturing (+2.7%) and the extractive industry (+2.2%). The production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning decreased by 4.1%.
