The Romanian Gymnastics Federation (FRG) emphasized that the proposal to award bronze medals to all three gymnasts who fought for it in the floor final, Jordan Chiles, Ana-Maria Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, at the Olympic Games in Paris, was launched by its lawyers.
„The Romanian Gymnastics Federation has taken note of the existing accusations at the international level and wishes to clarify certain extremely important aspects through this press release. The initiative to award bronze medals to all three athletes, Jordan Chiles, Ana-Maria Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, was launched by the lawyers of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, with the prior approval of the Federation. The leadership of the FRG, through the conventional representatives, submitted all the necessary diligence for this consensus to be reached. We emphasize the fact that there were certain requests from the American side for this desideratum to be fulfilled, requests that our side accepted every time, an aspect appreciated by the conventional representative of the American side,” a statement published on the account of the Facebook of the federation reads.
„During this entire period, the FRG was supported by Nadia Comaneci as well, in order to reach a fair consensus for all the sportswomen, in relation to the technical difficulties that proved to be encountered by the International Gymnastics Federation. The FRG, together with its partners, has always sought for the solution of this dispute to be resolved in a way that respects and recognizes the sportswomen involved,” the statement says.
The FRG also appealed to the gymnastics community to put an end to the attacks targeting the three gymnasts, as well as Nadia Comaneci.
„In this way, we appeal to the entire gymnastics community, both in the country and outside the country, to put a STOP to the attacks against the gymnasts Jordan Chiles, Ana-Maria Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea and especially Nadia Comaneci, whose intervention was always in favour of all three athletes/three medals,” FRG mentions.
