Interim president Bolojan voices hope state institutions are better prepared for May elections

Published on

Interim president, Ilie Bolojan, said on Thursday, after attending the European Council, that he hopes the state institutions will be better prepared to face the hybrid threats in the May presidential elections.

„We need to make sure that the elections in May are organized fairly, honestly, transparently, in such a way that Romanians can cast their vote and that it is the result of their will. Having an actual war in Ukraine, in which Romania, together with all the other allies, both in the European Union, but also transatlantic, supported Ukraine against this aggression, it is obvious that at the same time as these classic wars, hybrid wars always emerge, which mean discouraging the confidence of citizens in countries that are, let’s say, adversaries to the cause of the war, creating mistrust, social rifts and so on. This is a reality that cannot be denied,” the interim president explained.

He said hybrid attacks are present across Europe.

„Our problem is to find the means by which these outside influences are not likely to generate social tensions or disturbances that seriously affect things, but this is a matter for state institutions to manage and I hope that we will be in a better situation not only in Romania, because these phenomena are seen in Eastern Europe, but not only in Eastern Europe, to be better prepared and not to have such situations,” said Bolojan.

The interim president said that, so far, there is no additional element that would lead to a convening of the Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) on the issue of the annulment of the elections.
