Romania’s Minister of Home Affairs Catalin Predoiu said on July 4, US Independence Day, that Romania’s law enforcement entities will continue their good cooperation with the American federal ones.

„As the minister of home affairs, I developed and will continue to develop co-operation between the law enforcement entities of our country and the US federal ones, with the aim of strengthening public safety, combating cross-border crime, trafficking in human beings and illicit drugs in particular, protecting and recovering victims of human and drug trafficking, protecting the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens,” Predoiu is quoted as saying in a press statement released by the Ministry of Domestic Affairs (MAI) on Thursday.

Predoiu extended to the American people his most sincere wishes for peace, prosperity and progress.

„The US National Day is also a good opportunity to evoke and reaffirm the deep strategic partnership between our countries, which guarantees collective security and mutual support in the event of any threat and which must be further developed, including in the economic and investment fields.”

Predoiu mentioned the intensification of MAI’s efforts to combat human trafficking in 2023, an aspect mentioned positively including in the Annual Report of the US State Department.

„Equally relevant is collaboration with FBI, the fight against cross-border organised crime, illicit drug and human trafficking, as well as cybercrime. It is an institutional partnership that I care about very much, including from the viewpoint of the excellent level of training of the specialists in the US organisations, the quality of the education they want transferred to the national training institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”

Predoiu added that there is an intention for a partnership between the Alexandru Ioan Cuza Police Academy and the FBI Academy at Quantico, a project that is being worked on concretely, a partnership whose materialisation will be, in the long term, the transfer of expertise and know-how in training law enforcement forces, which in the long term will also lead to a change in mentality of those who considering a job with the Interior Ministry.
