Justice minister seeks Parliament’s approval for home and IT search in Nelu Tataru’s bribe-taking case

Published on

Justice Minister Alina Gorghiu sent on Friday the Chamber of Deputies Speaker the request for the Chamber’s approval to strip former Health Minister and Liberal deputy Nelu Tataru of parliamentary immunity and thus greenlight the search of the defendant’s home and IT devices, the Justice Ministry announced.

The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) announced on Friday that it is requesting the Chamber of Deputies’ approval for the IT and home search in the case in which Nelu Tataru is accused of bribe-taking.

Prosecutors of the Iasi branch of the National Anticorruption Directorate opened on Thursday a criminal investigation into Nelu Tataru – a specialist doctor with the Surgery Section of the „Dimitrie Castroian” Municipal Hospital in Husi, Vaslui County – in a case in which he is accused of receiving various amounts of money, usually between RON 100 and 500 as bribe, as well as foodstuff from 45 people (patients/next-of-kins) for fulfilling his duties as a surgeon, consulting patients or issuing medical prescriptions.
