Justice Minister Alina Gorghiu announced that since the beginning of the year so far, the Romanian state managed to return almost 300 fugitives to Romania, adding that on Tuesday an extremely dangerous criminal, Ghinea Marius Liviu, sentenced by Romanian courts to 10 years in prison for trafficking in minors, will be brought to Romania.
„At the moment there are almost 300 fugitives that the Romanian state has managed to return to the country since the beginning of the year until now,” said Alina Gorghiu after the Government meeting on Tuesday.
In this context, Alina Gorghiu said that the draft law initiated by the Ministry of Justice – „The fugitive pays” – received a favourable report from the Legal Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and will be voted in a plenary meeting.
„At the same time, we have good news coming from the Romanian legislature, a favorable report on the law that the Ministry of Justice has initiated, „The Fugitive Pays,” is that law by which those who have been handed sentences in Romania and run away to try not to execute this sentence in the prison system, when they return, they will take the money out of their pockets. The Legal Committee gave a favourable report, next week I hope to have a vote in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies on this initiative beneficial for the Romanian state,” said the Justice minister.
Gorghiu mentioned that on Tuesday an offender convicted of child trafficking will get to the Romanian prison system.
„I also want to tell you that today we will have on Romanian territory and will arrive in the Romanian prison system an extremely dangerous criminal, his name is Ghinea Marius Liviu. As I was saying, he will soon land in Romania. He is a person sentenced in Romania to prison for an extremely serious crime – child trafficking. He is an extremely dangerous criminal, a harmful man who has traumatised children for life, broken destinies and wrecked entire families. This is why I felt the need to talk to you about this fugitive sentenced, I repeat, by the Romanian courts to 10 years in prison, because very often we talk about fugitives with famous names convicted for much less and we forget to talk about extremely dangerous criminals who sexually abuse minors, who sexually abuse young people and who are convicted for rape and human trafficking,” added Alina Gorghiu.
