Light corvette approved by CSAT – to be delivered to Romania in approximately six months

Published on

The light corvette whose acquisition was approved by the Supreme Council for Country’s Defense (CSAT) will be delivered to Romania in approximately six months, defense sources said on Wednesday.

The provision of a HISAR-class light corvette contributes to the consolidation of capabilities intended to execute a wide range of missions in Romania’s area of responsibility, such as the protection of critical maritime infrastructure elements, patrol missions and independent combat missions or within naval groups.

The delivery time is „extremely short”, approximately six months, in the current configuration, followed by its equipping in a shipyard in Romania with the combat systems requested by the Romanian Naval Forces, the sources say.

In March, the CSAT approved the provision of a new light corvette-type ship to the Romanian Naval Forces, capable of executing a multitude of missions in the shortest possible time, in order to initiate the necessary steps by the Ministry of National Defense to complete the acquisition. At this moment, the letter that will be sent to the Romanian Parliament is being prepared, for the approval of the acquisition, as required by the current legislative framework, given that this contract will exceed 100 million euros.

The light corvette-type ship is equipped with modern navigation and communications systems and also has a very wide range of state-of-the-art sensors and weapon systems, which ensures the ship a high combat potential in all combat environments. It has a hangar that provides facilities for a medium helicopter and an unmanned aircraft.
