Marcel Ciolacu receives from PSD leadership „broad negotiation” mandate for future government

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) President, Marcel Ciolacu, received on Monday from the party’s National Political Council „a broad mandate” to negotiate with the other pro-European parties to form majorities in the Parliament, participation in the government and obtaining the position of prime minister in the new Government, the spokesperson for the social democrats, Lucian Romascanu said.

„Today a short National Political Council was held to discuss the mandate that will be entrusted to Mr. President Ciolacu and to the management team in the negotiations that will follow, both for the continuation of the discussions on the majorities in the Parliament and for a possible participation in government. There were a lot of speeches from colleagues regarding what happened in the elections, how they see the future, but, starting from everything discussed, Mr. Marcel Ciolacu was entrusted with this broad negotiation mandate. We will negotiate with absolutely all the pro-European and democratic forces in the Parliament, surely that the mandate also includes the request for the presence in the government considering the score obtained by the PSD and receiving the position of prime minister”, stated Lucian Romascanu.

He emphasized that the PSD will not enter the government if the other parties do not agree on five points, among which the industrialization of Romania and the reform of the state.

„We have established five points without which the PSD will not enter the government. They are: maintaining the pace of investments at over 100 billion lei annually, increasing purchasing power by continuing to reduce inflation and reducing labor taxation, including capping gas prices, energy and basic foodstuffs, measures that subscribe to the notion of economic patriotism, the continuation of supporting the Romanian private milieu, the industrialization of Romania and the reform of the state, of course, starting with a more flexible government and continuing with debureaucratization”, he said.
