The Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, met on Tuesday with representatives of the World Bank, in which context they discussed, among other things, the identification of solutions that would lead to the unblocking of the „Justice District” project and the continuation of projects to modernize the entire justice system in Romania.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Justice sent on Tuesday, during the meeting, Radu Marinescu emphasized the importance of continuing investment projects in the area of infrastructure development and modernization, both at the level of courts and within the penitentiary system….
At the same time, the cited source specifies that the Minister of Justice highlighted the urgent need to accelerate the digitalization process, including by implementing information systems based on artificial intelligence, but also the need to adopt legislative reforms – all of this in order to streamline the activity in the system and improve the quality of the act of justice, in the interest of the citizen.
„Also, the Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, presented several points discussed during last week’s meeting with representatives from the justice sector, such as promoting alternative dispute resolution instruments, extrajudicially, to relieve the activity of judicial bodies, establishing the legal framework for the remote resolution, via videoconference, of disputes with professionals, simplifying judicial procedures, introducing adequate procedures for filtering the notification of court cases, intended to reduce the inflation of cases that do not necessarily require a judicial resolution, reviewing the legislative framework, especially the procedural norms, updating judicial stamp duties and establishing them as support income for investments in judicial infrastructure, as well as identifying methods for streamlining the implementation of the procedure for administering evidence by lawyers or legal advisors”, it is stated in the press release.
According to the press release, another important topic addressed was the field of public legal aid.
„In this regard, the Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, highlighted the steps taken and the discussions held with all directors of the Ministry of Justice, establishing, following an extensive analysis, the takeover by the Related Legal Professions Service of the coordination and management activities regarding the development of the field targeting public legal aid”, the Ministry of Justice mentions.
The Ministry of Justice also states that discussions were held to identify effective solutions to unblock the „Justice District” project, blocked due to insufficient financial resources, despite all the steps that the Ministry of Justice has taken for this purpose.
„The deadlock can be overcome as soon as the Ministry of Finance allocates commitment and budgetary credits to the Ministry of Justice, necessary for signing the advanced design contract, in order to obtain the construction permit,” the press release also reads.
Regarding the Ministry of Justice projects already underway and requiring funding for continuation and completion, World Bank representatives expressed their commitment to hold discussions with all decision-makers in order to overcome financial obstacles.
