Timisoara, which has officially become the European Capital of Culture in 2023, is looking forward with confidence to the impressive show that will follow until February 2024, with over 1,000 events planned and with an international message about the cultural values of the city conveyed by the hundreds of diplomats and journalists who joined it this weekend, but also by the up to one million visitors expected here this year, Mayor Dominic Fritz told Agerpres.
According to him, it is a project that may have seemed unfeasible to some two years ago, but in which the whole community believed with all their heart.
Dominic Fritz pointed out that Timisoara still has a lot to show and everyone is welcome with open arms.
„Timisoara has boldly delivered its message this weekend. There have been three days in which we showed that the things that bring us together are more precious than those that separate us. The values that built this city – innovation, multiculturalism, diversity – were seen and heard across Europe. Thousands of tourists have walked our streets and witnessed the performances and events we have prepared in every district of the city. Hundreds of Romanian and foreign journalists will be spreading our message further. Dozens of ambassadors and officials from partner cities came to Timisoara to explore joint projects that we will develop in the future. And, of course, at the heart of it all is the extraordinary energy of Timisoara’s people, without whom the city could not be European Capital of Culture. To all of them I offer my heartfelt thanks. These days, more than 800 people were involved in the organisation of the event, including 500 volunteers from Romania, Serbia and Japan who helped to ensure the smooth running of the events, while hundreds of police forces ensured the peace and safety of participants in the public events held outdoors or indoors.
