The Ministry of Finance (MF) borrowed on Thursday RON 800 million from banks through two issues of government bonds, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

Thus, MF attracted RON 400 million from the first issue of government bonds, with a residual maturity of 66 months, at an average yield of 7.75% per annum. The nominal value of the issue was RON 400 million and banks subscribed RON 716.2 million. An additional auction is scheduled for Friday, through which the state wants to attract another RON 60 million at the yield set on Thursday for the bonds.

The ministry has also attracted another RON 400 million from the second issue of government bonds, with a residual maturity of 114 months, at an average yield of 7.98% per annum. The issue amounted to RON 400 million, and banks subscribed RON 529.6 million. The state wants to attract another RON 60 million through an additional auction scheduled for Friday, at the yield set on Thursday for the bonds.

The Ministry of Finance has planned loans from commercial banks amounting to RON 5.2 billion in January 2025, to which RON 570 million can be added through additional non-competitive bidding sessions related to bond auctions.

The total amount of RON 5.77 billion is RON 170 million more than the RON 5.6 billion programmed in December 2024, and will be used to refinance public debt and finance the state budget deficit.
