The chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, believes that a possible candidacy of the former deputy secretary general of NATO, Mircea Geoana for the position of president of Romania, and the fact that several candidates will participate in this electoral race represents „a very good thing for democracy”.
Marcel Ciolacu, who on Saturday visited the Professor Cristea Stanescu Secondary School in the Cornu commune of southern Prahova county, was asked by journalists if he would share the same electoral pool with Geoana, and he answered with a joke.
„We didn’t find him at the pool. He wasn’t, so we don’t share it. It’s good, there will be a lot of candidates in the next period, it’s a very good thing for democracy,” said the PSD leader, who had previously conducted a visit to the swimming pool of the educational unit in Cornu.
Mircea Geoana notified NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday that he will retire from the position of deputy secretary general of the Alliance starting on September 10, informed nato.int. on Tuesday.
