More than 25 screenings at Transylvania International Film Festival running in Sibiu

More than 25 Romanian or foreign movies will be screened – some of them in a premiere – in the Sibiu leg of the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) taking place between September 7 – 10, the organizers announced in a release, write Agerpres.

The venues of the 17th edition of TIFF Sibiu, the bill of which includes some of the most anticipated Romanian films of the year, as well as documentaries, classics or international box office hits, are the city’s Grand Plaza and the CineGold Multiplex Hall.

Libertate/Freedom, Tudor Giurgiu’s latest film, inspired by real events that happened in Sibiu in December 1989, featured at the Sarajevo Film Festival and winner of the Audience Award for best Romanian film at TIFF.22, will be presented in a special preview with the production team attending.

Also picked for the festival were Inca doua lozuri/Another lottery ticket, a follow-up to the successful 2016 comedy Doua lozuri/Two lottery tickets directed independently by Paul Negoescu, Tigru/Tiger – directed by Andrei Tanase, selected to Sarajevo and Rotterdam and winner of the TIFF.22 debut award, the Moldovan comedy Carbon directed by Ion Bors, „the most successful film across the Prut in the last 30 years”, as well as Tudor Botezatu’s comedy Pup-o, mă! 3 – Ouăle, franceza si ardelenii/Kiss Her, Man! 3 – Eggs, French and Transylvania.

The documentary has a special place at TIFF Sibiu this year.

Planeta albastra/Blue Planet by Daniel Saracut is the bittersweet chronicle of the Dio Family rock band that reunites to record the title track. The journalist duo Adina Popescu and Iulian Ghervase sign their third film, Vulturii din Taga/The Taga Eagles, the story of the coach to an eternally losing football team from a village in Romania. David (directed by Radu Muntean) tells the story of a summer camp organized by ultramarathon athlete Tibi Useriu and which gave rise to ‘David’s Trail’ family route. The newest documentary signed by Oliver Stone, Nuclear, will be premiered at TIFF Sibiu. Special screenings are scheduled for Phoenix. Har / Jar/ Phoenix. Brilliance / Fire (directed by Cornel Mihalache), a window into the history of the legendary Romanian rock band, from creation to the present, and Cazul Inginerului Ursu/The Case of Engineer Ursu (directed by Liviu Tofan and Serban Georgescu) which focuses on the investigation of dissident Gheorghe Ursu – nicknamed ‘Babu’, by the Securitate political police,” the release states.

Other films that can be seen in a premiere at TIFF Sibiu are the Spanish comedy Historias para no contar/Stories Not to be Told directed by Cesc Gay, the Hungarian drama Heights and Depths directed by Csoma Sandor, and Ira Sachs’ lustrous romantic drama Passage.

A restored version of Michael Curtiz’s classic Casablanca will be screened in the Grand Plaza, 80 years after its premiere.

Nae Caranfil’s debut production E pericoloso sporgersi, a landmark in Romanian cinema, is also featured in the program.

TIFF Sibiu also includes screenings for children, as well as meetings with special guests.
