Two Ukrainian citizens who crossed the border into Romania through the Maramuresului mountains, in a steep alpine area, were recovered by mountain rescuers on the night between Monday and Tuesday, informs the director of the Maramures County Mountain Rescue Public Service (SPJ), Dan Benga.
„The two Ukrainians were found. After a search and rescue operation that lasted over eight hours, the two, who listened to the advice of mountain rescuers and border police, were recovered. They were offered hot tea and sandwiches and, after being medically checked and prepared, they were evacuated from the mountains. At the end of the rescue operation, they were taken over by the relevant authorities to carry out the procedures required in such cases. (…) The search and rescue operation ended in the early hours of the morning,” said Dan Benga.
According to him, the two Ukrainians were in a steep area of the Maramuresului mountains when they requested help because they could no longer find their way.
The extraction operation from the mountains was carried out by a Border Police crew from Valea Viseului rural town.
