National leader of the Right Force, MP Ludovic Orban, said on Monday that there is a possibility for a „serious coalescence” of the right-of-centre political formations of liberal and conservative orientation, and that he has a mandate in that regard.
„About the strategy for the parliamentary and presidential elections, the National Council took the decision to support the establishment of an alliance of a democratic right-of-centre political entities that oppose the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and set as a political objective for the Right Force to participate in a coalition that would have the capacity to defeat PSD in the presidential and parliamentary elections. You should also know that I had a mandate to negotiate and I’ve started discussions and negotiations with democratic right-of-centre political entities and that we are at a stage of negotiations that make me optimistic and that allow me to say that there is really a possibility for a serious coalescence of a liberally, conservatively leaning right-of-centre political entities that can create a successful political project that leads to winning the presidential election and winning the parliamentary elections,” Orban told a news conference at Parliament.
As for the legislative priorities for the current parliamentary session, he announced the possibility of submitting a motion of censure.
„The thing we want most is to bring down the Ciolacu government in this parliamentary session through a motion of censure, which is why we will be discussing with all the political parties that do not want Ciolacu to have the advantage of being a candidate in these elections with the position of prime minister, thus acquiring an undeserved advantage, to be with us and to participate in tabling and voting on a notion of censure.”
He called on his former colleagues from the National Liberal Party ( PNL) to decide whether they are leaning left or right.
„If they are leaning right, the only way they can prove that is to initiate, together with us, and take a vote on a motion of censure against the Ciolacu Government, because otherwise all the government’s communicational Babylon is nothing more than rainwater, they are soap bubbles that leave the impression that there are misunderstandings and conflicts between PSD and PNL, when in fact they are well on their way and govern together. (…) The only way they can demonstrate is the association with the real Opposition to bring down the Ciolacu government,” Orban said.
He then added that among the Right Force’s legislative priorities is the cancellation of all the „insane tax increases of the current governing coalition” that have negatively affected Romania’s economic growth potential, defending private property, getting rid of all anti-market measures.
He also announced having submitted two bills, one on the indexation of pensions for those who worked in difficult conditions, and the other aiming to make the payment of the social security contribution optional for people who have a contribution period and retirement age, but want to continue working.
„We are also coming up with a healthcare insurance bill in which we practically want to develop the private health insurance system on a model that works in other countries (…) Basically, let’s abolish the monopoly of the Healthcare House.”
