Government spokesman Mihai Constantin said on Wednesday that About 1.9 million children who go to kindergarten or school will receive fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy and bakery products next school year, on Wednesday said the gov’t spokesman Mihai Constantin, in a press conference, at the Victoria Palace.
„So, Romania’s school programme, which benefited approximately 1.8 million children during the previous year, continues and expands. The total budget of the programme exceeds 760 million RON, of which over 86 million RON represents the financial aid allocated by the European Union,” Mihai Constantin added.
The spokesman said that weekly, children from kindergartens and schools up to and including the eighth grade will receive two portions of fruits and vegetables, three portions of milk or dairy, two portions of dairy products and five bakery products.
„In addition, through educational actions on nutrition included in this programme, they will also be taught why it is important to eat healthy. The programme is financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, but its effective implementation falls under the responsibility of the local public administration authorities and the managers/principals of kindergartens and schools who are responsible for the proper development of this programme,” the government spokesman concluded.
