New registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport increased by 11.3% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year, while the category of vehicles for the transport of goods reported an increase of 2.7%, according to provisional data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the same source, at the end of March this year, new registrations of road vehicles for the transport of passengers recorded increases in all categories as follows: mopeds and motorcycles (+36.3%), passenger cars (+10.6%) and buses and minibuses (+1.4%).
Regarding new registrations of new road vehicles for the transport of passengers, increases of 54.4% were recorded in the mopeds and motorcycles category, respectively of 1.4% in the passenger car category. On the other hand, the buses and minibuses category reported registrations decreasing by 6.1%, year-on-year.
INS data reveal that new registrations of road vehicles for the transport of goods recorded increases as follows: the trailers and semi-trailers category (+7.5%), respectively the tractors category (+1.1%). In contrast, the truck segment (including special purpose road vehicles) recorded a decrease of 0.4%.
Also, new registrations of new road vehicles for the transport of goods increased due to the trailers and semi-trailers category (6% increase). At the opposite pole was the truck category (including special purpose road vehicles), with a decrease of 28.4%, as well as the tractors category – with 19.1% fewer registrations.
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, in the first three months of 2025, new road vehicle registrations increased by 0.7% for passenger vehicles, and by 6.3% for goods vehicles.
According to official statistics, road vehicles classified in accordance with European pollution standards, registered in circulation, included, at the end of the first quarter of 2025, 64.4% of vehicles with Euro 4, Euro 5 or Euro 6 pollution standards, but also 10% of vehicles with Non-Euro pollution standards.
For the passenger car category, the largest share was held by vehicles compliant with the European Euro 4 standard, respectively 33.1%, and for the buses and minibuses category, most vehicles, respectively 22.3%, were classified in the Euro 3 standard.
At the same time, for the mopeds and motorcycles category, most vehicles (23.5%) were classified as Non-Euro.
At the same time, vehicles compliant with the European Euro 3 standard prevailed in the truck category in a proportion of 27.1%, those compliant with the Euro 6 standard were predominant in the tractor category (44.9%), while for the special purpose road vehicles category, most vehicles (22.3%) were classified in the Non-Euro standard.
