Nicolae Ciuca appeals to authorities to prepare for flood coming on Danube

The president of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Nicolae Ciuca, made an appeal on Thursday evening to the central and local authorities in the Danube riparian counties to prepare for the flood coming on the river.

„To avoid other tragedies caused by floods, I appeal to the central and local authorities in the Danube riparian counties to prepare for the flood coming on the river. Specialists have already estimated the period and the expected flow, after the Danube has exceeded its waterbed in Budapest. It is mandatory to guarantee people’s safety and limit material damage”, Nicolae Ciuca wrote on Facebook.

He says that he has already discussed with the minister of the environment, who had an extraordinary meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Emergency Situations.

„Mircea Fechet will go to inspect the critical areas that were damaged in the floods of 2006 and 2013 and requested the reverification of all dikes. And the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, made sure that the Portile de Fier I hydropower plant is ready to transit the flood, in order to reduces the flow of the Danube. However, I warn the competent authorities not to rely only on the capacities of these facilities, either hydropower plants or dams. I say it again: it is mandatory to intervene in time to protect people and their properties”, Nicolae Ciuca said.
