Bucharest General Mayor Nicusor Dan said that has two „essential” expectations from acting President Ilie Bolojan, which look to clear up the circumstances of the election annulment decision and safeguard the organization of a fair election.

„We are now in a transition period after an extremely important event, the annulment of the presidential election. Anywhere in this world, such an event is something extraordinary. And then, there are two essential expectations: one – to clarify the annulment of the election, that is, who contributed to the campaign, how much, what were the means and so on, so that as many Romanians as possible can be satisfied that the Constitutional Court ruling was fair and regain confidence in the democratic system; two – to have the guarantee that the upcoming election will be fair and free of all interference to favor a certain candidate,” the General Mayor told broadcaster Digi 24.

He voiced his opinion that Klaus Iohannis’s activity must be assessed from the perspective of his ten years in office, and voiced two major reproaches against him: the widening of the gap between society and the political class, and the fact that „after Ordinance No. 13, the fight against corruption was terminated” in Romania.

„As the embodiment of the political class, he somehow made the distance between society and the political class even greater than it was. And we cannot help but see that immediately after Ordinance No. 13, the fight against corruption was terminated in Romania. These are my two major reproaches to him. (…) I am not talking about the independence of the judiciary, I am talking about its efficiency, because in the criminal area we see entire swathes of corruption no one has touched,” concluded Nicusor Dan.
