Number of positions held in public institutions and authorities increase by over 3,000 in April 2024

The number of positions occupied in public institutions and authorities in Romania was, in April 2024, 1,292,549, up by 3,009 compared to the previous month (plus 0.23%), almost 64% of them being in the central public administration, according to the data published on the website of the Ministry of Finance.

Out of a total of 826,241 employees in the central public administration (plus 2,351 compared to the previous month), 608,392 worked in institutions fully financed from the state budget (plus 1,530 employees, compared to March 2024).

The highest number of filled positions was recorded in the Ministry of Education, respectively 302,230 (minus 425 filled positions), the Ministry of Internal Affairs – 123,859 (plus 848 filled positions), the Ministry of National Defense – 73,818 (plus 872 filled positions), the Ministry of Finance – 24,762 (minus 7 occupied positions) and the Ministry of Health -18,156 (minus four occupied positions).

According to the source, 9,212 positions were occupied in the institutions fully financed from the social insurance budget, 17 less than in March 2024, in those subsidized from the state budget and from the unemployment insurance budget a number of 44,386, down by 33, while there were 164,251 filled positions in institutions fully financed from own revenues (plus 871).

At the same time, in April of this year, 466,308 people (+658) worked in local public administration, of whom 286,443 in institutions fully financed from local budgets (+403) and 179,865 in institutions fully or partially financed from own revenues (+255).
