The number of slaughters and carcass weight increased in all species of animals and birds in September compared to the same period last year, according to the data of the National Institute of Statistics (INS), published on Monday.
According to official statistics, in September of this year, 45,000 cattle were slaughtered (compared to 43,000 in September 2023), 301,000 pigs (281,000 in September 2023), respectively 28.14 million birds ( compared to 27.11 million, in the same period of the previous year). In sheep and goats, the number of slaughters increased in September 2024, to 327,000, from 326,000, in September 2023.
In terms of carcass weight (production), in September 2024 compared to the same month last year, there were increases in pigs of 7.9% (to 26,297 tons), in cattle of 7.7% (to 7,378 tons), in sheep and goats of 5.9% (at 4,770 tons) and in birds of 0.4% (at 45,911 tons).
The average carcass weight of slaughtered animals and birds in September 2024 was 164 kilograms for cattle, 87.4 kilograms for pigs, 14.6 kilograms for sheep and goats, and 1.6 kilograms for birds.
The data for specialized industrial units (slaughterhouses) were obtained through exhaustive statistical research, carried out by the National Institute of Statistics, and for agricultural holdings without legal personality, from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
