Orange warning of heavy rainfall in eleven counties, Friday and Saturday

TheNational Meteorological Administration of Romania (ANM) issued on Thursday an Orange warning of heavy rainfall, valid for Friday and Saturday in eleven counties, as well as two Yellow alerts for heavy rain and wind intensification, respectively, targeting almost half of the country.

According to the meteorologists, between March 28, 10:00 – March 29, 12:00, an Orange warning for heavy rainfall will be in force in the counties of Mehedinti, Gorj and Valcea and in the mountainous areas of the counties of Caras-Severin, Hunedoara, Alba, Sibiu, Brasov, Arges, Dambovita and Prahova. In these areas, the rainfall will reach 50 – 70 liters per square meter, especially through accumulation, and locally, especially in northern Oltenia, rainfall will reach more than 80 – 100 liters per square meter.

Also, at altitudes above 2,000 meters, there will be precipitation predominantly in the form of snow and a heavy layer of snow will be deposited.

The specialized forecast reveals that between March 28, 10:00 – March 29, 12:00, a Yellow alert for heavy rain will be in force in the south of Banat and Oltenia, west and north of Muntenia, south-west of Moldavia and Transylvania, as well as in the Western Carpathians and locally in the south of the Eastern Carpathians. Thus, there will be showers, and the rainfall will reach 25 – 40liters per square meter, in isolated areas over 50 liters per square meter, especially by accumulation.

At the same time, from Friday morning, from 3:00 am, until Saturday at 6:00 am, another Yellow alert, this time for wind intensification, will affect counties in southern Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea, with periods when the wind gusts will reach 50 – 70 km/h. In the west of the Southern Carpathians, at altitudes generally above 2,000 meters, gusts will range between 75 – 90 km/h and there will be blizzard.

Currently, at national level there is in force a warning of heavy rainfall and intensified winds, which will expire on Saturday at 23:00, and a Code Yellow warning of rain, which targets the counties of Hunedoara, Caras-Severin, Gorj, Valcea and Mehedinti.
