Orthodox chapel in Palace of Parliament consecrated by Patriarch Daniel, highlighting link between prayer and communion

Published on

Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church officiated on Monday the consecration ceremony of the Orthodox chapel in the Palace of Parliament, on which occasion he pointed out that this event highlights the link between prayer and communion, between worship and culture.

„The consecration of this chapel dedicated to St. Andrew the Apostle, the First Called, Patron of Romania in the building of the Palace of Parliament has a special spiritual significance, which highlights the link between prayer and communion, between worship and culture, including political culture, between institutional activity and community, between individual freedom and social responsibility. In an increasingly secularised world, a consecrated liturgical space, which calls to prayer, helps us to rediscover the truth that the human being is called to holiness in communion with the Holy God and to humble service to people, because individual and community prayer is the source of peace, joy and hope,” said His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel in his speech after the ceremony.

The head of the Romanian Orthodox Church gifted the 2018 Centenary Bible, the Prayer Book Psalter, 2016 edition, the Horologion (Books of Hours) (2014), the Triodion, and several hundred prayer books.

The chapel is located on level P, in the area of the official entrance C1 and will be under the canonical and administrative jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Bucharest.
