Over 170 poets from 27 countries to attend Bucharest International Poetry Festival

More than 170 poets from 27 countries on four continents will be attending the 13th edition of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival (FIPB), September 11-17 write Agerpres.

„A known project that has been interestedly followed by both the writers’ guild and the poetry-loving public, the Bucharest International Poetry Festival, has grown exponentially from one edition to another, becoming today the most important event of its kind in Romania and one of the most followed in Europe. The economy of this year’s edition includes a rich list of participants: over 170 poets from 27 countries on four continents (Albania, Algeria, Austria, Bolivia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cuba, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, North Macedonia, Morocco, Montenegro, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Moldova, Spain, Turkey, the Netherlands and Uruguay)” according to FIBP organisers.

The Bucharest International Poetry Festival is organised by the Bucharest City Hall via the National Museum of Romanian Literature. This year’s edition celebrates the power of poetry and the eternity of the muses.

„This year’s theme of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival is placed under the well-known paraphrase after Cicero: inter arma silent musae / when arms speaks, muses are silent – an ambitious exercise to celebrate the power of poetry and, in extenso, literature, and a plea for the eternity of the muses who have the power to inspire the arts and free speech even in today’s turbulent and difficult times, when, for two years, we have heard the echo of a war on the northern border of the country. I am convinced that lovers of literature will find in the schedule diverse and ambitious moments and events that will satisfy all tastes, from the youngest readers to the experienced ones, from the most severe in appreciation to those for whom literature is a modus vivendi or to those who can now find themselves in it,” says Director of the National Museum of Romanian Literature Ioan Cristescu, organiser of the festival.

The seven days of the festival include almost 50 events on different themes and formats: from meetings with poets, public readings, debates, round tables, colloquiums, poetry marathons or performances, to stage performances, film screenings and concerts, exhibitions and events dedicated to the professionals.

At the 2023 edition of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival, a project known and loved by poetry lovers, namely the National Poetry Book Fair – an event that brings to the fore the most recent and most important poetry books – is restarted.

Full schedule of the festival is posted on the official website: www.fipb.ro.
