Former gymnast Camelia Voinea, the mother and coach of Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, announced the gymnast’s retirement after she did not get a medal on the floor, on Monday, at the Olympic Games in Paris.
„Sabrina did not leave the carpet at any acrobatic line, they are all here, she deserves a medal! We have interrupted gymnastics here today, no one is fighting for our rights! We love all of you infinitely who have supported us. That’s all I could bear!” Camelia Voinea wrote on Facebook.
Ana Maria Barbosu placed fourth on the floor, Monday, in the artistic gymnastics competition of the Olympic Games in Paris, while Sabrina Maneca-Voinea placed fifth.
Barbosu was the bronze medalist for a few tens of seconds, but the American Jordan Chiles appealed and her score was increased, from 13.666 to 13.766, so she finished in third place.
Sabrina Maneca-Voinea also filed an appeal for the grade she received (13,700), but it was rejected. Sabrina stated that she felt unfair about the grade she received in the floor final, because she knew she deserved a higher grade.
„As you saw, I went a little weaker on the beam, but after that I gathered myself very well on the floor, I did my floor as well as I could, my acrobatic, artistic lines came out. It was the best floor, it was better than at the European and last year’s World Championships. But I don’t even know exactly what happened. Yes, I feel injustice, because I knew that I deserved a much higher grade,” Sabrina Maneca-Voinea declared, crying.
„I don’t know what happened with the appeal, and the American contested and her grade was increased. And I did the exercise as best I could, I didn’t leave the carpet. I don’t know why it hasn’t changed. I didn’t hear anything to tell me that they penalized me there or beyond. I know very well how I did the floor, I know very well that I didn’t leave the carpet, I know that the acrobatic lines came out quite well, I did the artistic one quite well…,” said the Romanian gymnast.
