PM announces halt of incentive to attract EU funding during employee’s leave

The personnel who work in projects to attract EU funding shall no longer receive an activity incentive during their leave, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Tuesday at the end of his working visit to Craiova, Dolj County.

„That bonus will be halted for the time of the leave. Do you attract European funds while on leave? If you think this is an incorrect approach, just say so. You enjoy your leave, you collect a basic salary you work for and for which you get the leave, and on top of that there’s the incentive for attracting European funds,” Ciolacu declared.

The prime minister added that performance indicators must be set in place in the public system.

„Let me make another announcement, although we are in election campaign and I have announced my candidacy: performance indicators must be set in place in the public system. (…) This means that the state will offer a 50 percent pay bonus, but then one will want to see what amount of funding you have attracted, how many projects you have unlocked, and this must happen every month. We went for the maximum 50 percent bonus, not up to 50 percent, granted according to performance. This has nothing to do with austerity, it’s just normal. I don’t know how legal it is or has been until now to collect an incentive for attracting European funding on top of the basic salary, while on leave,” said Ciolacu.
