PM Bolojan: I don’t think we can end this year with a deficit below 8%

Published on

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Tuesday said he does not believe Romania can close the year 2025 with a deficit below 8%, mentioning that the effects of the recently adopted fiscal-budgetary reform packages will be felt next year.

„I don’t think we can end this year with a deficit below 8%. However, as we do not currently have the data, the Ministry of Finance will certainly release estimates in the coming period, along with the budget revision scheduled for later this month. This is because some of the measures that were adopted, some came into effect from 1 August, as you know, have only been in place for one month, so we don’t yet know their impact. Furthermore, the real effects will be felt next year, as many of them will show their results more significantly in next year’s budget,” explained Ilie Bolojan during a press conference at Victoria Palace, when asked about the estimated budget deficit at the end of the year, following the adoption of the two reform packages.
