PM Marcel Ciolacu said on Tuesday that, in the electoral presidential competition, the candidate of the „Romania, Forward!” Alliance, Crin Antonescu, would enter the second round from first place.
He answered a question on the possible resignation of the PSD president in the event of Antonescu’s failure in Sunday’s election.
„Whenever there is election, whether local for European Parliament or for the position of President, only the PSD head is asked what he will do if he does not win or if the party does not win or if someone else has more county councils. I am officially announcing to you. Mr. Crin Antonescu will enter the second round from first place,” said Ciolacu after the meeting of the PSD National Political Council.
Asked whether the election of Crin Antonescu as President of Romania represents the last chance for Marcel Ciolacu to remain Prime Minister after the election, the PSD head said: „No. It is the last chance for Romania to continue to remain in a stable area both economically and politically. It is the last chance for us, for Romanians and for you, who are younger than me, to have a future in Romania”.
He specified that Antonescu’s performance at the electoral debate on Monday evening was appreciated by the members of the National Political Council.
