PM Ciolacu on situation at Sf. Pantelimon Hospital: Let those who do such thing go to jail

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Wednesday said that he discussed with the health minister the situation at the Sf. Pantelimon Hospital generated by four employees of the hospital having been picked up by the police for an investigation into suspicious deaths at the Intensive Care Unit, stressing that „those who do something like that must go to jail.”

He was informed by journalists that doctors of the Sf. Pantelimon Hospital were being interviewed in connection with evidence that they reduced the doses of norepinephrine causing patients to die.

„The health minister will come out. We’ve had several discussions today. The important thing is that we discover these things. First of all, those who do that should go to jail,” said Ciolacu.

On Wednesday, Health Minister Alexandru Rafila requested the resignation of the manager and the medical director of the Sfantul Pantelimon Emergency Clinical Hospital, given defective operation and public mistrust generated by the events of the last months and the ongoing investigations.

In April, prosecutors received a notification from a nurse from the hospital that between April 4 and 7, 2024, in the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 17 patients died as a result of the healthcare staff voluntarily reducing the dose of norepinephrine – a neurotransmitter used to increase or stabilise blood pressure.
