PM Ciolacu: Romania’s accession to the OECD, priority objective of the Government

Published on

Romania’s accession to the OECD remains a priority objective of the Government, which has been assumed by all the coalition partners through the Government Program, prime minister Marcel Ciolacu said.

According to a government press release, the prime minister chaired this year’s first meeting of the National Committee for Romania’s Accession to the OECD, which brings together representatives of ministries, institutions and public authorities involved in the accession process.

The meeting was attended, as special guests, by Mircea Abrudean, interim president of the Senate, and Mihai Ghigiu, representative of the Chamber of Deputies.

„Romania’s accession to the OECD remains a priority objective of the Government, which has been assumed by all coalition partners through the Government Program. Romania has so far had a positive evolution in this process and I thank everyone for their efforts! We have obtained 12 formal opinions from the OECD Committees, almost half of the total required, which shows that we are on schedule. I ask you all to keep up the momentum because we are looking forward to an intense period during 2025, focused on achieving substantial progress in the implementation of the priority recommendations,” Marcel Ciolacu was quoted as saying in the press release.

The main developments in the accession process were reviewed and the priorities for the current year were established during the talks.

As regards the priorities for the coming period, the prime minister referred to the chief recommendations received from the OECD Committees in areas such as „environment and waste, capital markets, public and corporate governance, investment and responsible business conduct”.

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening inter-institutional coordination, as well as the thorough preparation of Romania’s participation in the accession assessments scheduled in the coming period.
