Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, on a working visit to the United Arab Emirates, met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

„In peacetime we can build. Ensuring security in our areas will contribute to boosting trade relations and mutual investments is the conclusion of today’s meeting with the President of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whom I thank both for his warm welcome and for his openness towards strengthening relations between the two countries”, is the message sent on this occasion by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, according to the Government’s press release.

The Romanian Prime Minister also said that Romania remains committed to working with the European Union, the US and regional partners to contribute to efforts to de-escalate the situation in the Middle East. In this context, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu appreciated the balanced position of the United Arab Emirates and the call for restraint addressed to both sides after Iran’s attack on Israel.

Prime Minister Ciolacu’s visit to the United Arab Emirates also had a prominent economic component, through a series of meetings that the Romanian Chief Executive and members of the government delegation had with other officials and representatives of renowned Emirati companies in strategic areas of interest to Romania, such as transport infrastructure, energy, agriculture and digitalisation. The discussions that took place in the plenary of the Romanian and UAE governmental delegations and in the bilateral meetings at ministerial level open up prospects for attracting new investments in Romania. The development of bilateral dialogue at the level of national companies was discussed, which resulted in the exchange of bilateral agreements in the field of digitisation and telecommunications regulation.

„We encourage the development of joint strategic projects that contribute to the economic development of our countries, including in the framework of the regular dialogue at the level of national officials. We appreciate the interest shown here in the United Arab Emirates and by our dialogue partners and we look forward to the third session of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Commission, which will take place very soon in Bucharest, on 26 April, and which remains a valuable tool for promoting institutional contacts,” Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said, according to the quoted source.

The Romanian Prime Minister also reaffirmed Romania’s support for the development of the European Union’s relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council, mentioning in this context the cooperation framework offered by the organisation in 2024 of an EU-UAE investment forum and the upcoming EU-Gulf Cooperation Council High Level Forum on Regional Cooperation and Security, scheduled to take place next week.
