The National Liberal Party (PNL) specifies that the current billboarding campaign that has come to media attention is a natural endeavor to keep the public informed about the party and the PNL Chairman Nicolae Ciuca’s activity, carried out in a „perfectly transparent and legal” manner, emphasizing that the billboards were not intended exclusively for the promotion of the PNL leader’s book, but were also used for events such as the Congress of the European People’s Party and for Party Day.
„According to the law, political parties benefit from a state budget subsidy. Each party sets its priorities regarding the promotion of its activities, depending on the communication channels it is interested in (print or audiovisual media, online media, outdoor, leaflets etc.) PNL – just as the other parties – uses these funds to promote its activity, the party’s leadership and candidates both through outdoor advertising campaigns and other methods. All parties invest subsidy amounts for communication, press and propaganda, which are a natural part of political communication, in compliance with the law. The first party leader who benefited from such a promotion was then USR Chairman Catalin Drula. Currently, another party leader – AUR’s George Simion – is promoting in the same manner an electoral plan in a campaign that is running outside the legal period for this type of advertising. Among the political formations, the PSD has spent the largest amounts for promotion activities. Therefore, the current promotion actions are just a normal activity of informing the public about the activity of the PNL and of the party chairman, carried out in a perfectly transparent and legal way,” the PNL said in a release on Thursday.
The PNL points out that the billboards had been booked and contracted as early as February 2024 for the entire year, for all the party’s electoral campaigns and promotional materials.
„These billboards were not intended exclusively for the promotion of the chairman’s book, but were also used for events such as the Congress of the European People’s Party and Party Day,” the cited source added.
