Pre-selection system for goods traffic in Nadlac II Customs, to streamline truck traffic

Published on

A system of pre-selection of goods traffic was carried out on a special thoroughfare at the Nadlac II Border Crossing Point, on the A1 highway, where equipment was installed to identify the trucks that are already registered in the database and they no longer have to wait at the scales, resulting in a smoother flow of trucks leaving Romania and shorter waiting times at the border, according to Agerpres.

The representatives of the Timisoara Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges (DRDP) declared, on Tuesday, for Agerpres, that the traffic pre-selection system is undergoing operational tests in the next period.

The system, which cost approximately 100,000 euros, includes equipment that allows increasing the control and processing capacity of goods transport vehicles and, implicitly, reducing waiting times on the way out of the country.

The additional lane dedicated to trucks with a capacity of more than 7.5 tons has sensors for monitoring the weight of vehicles, identification video cameras based on registration numbers, IT equipment for processing data obtained from sensors and cameras, traffic lights and electronic panels with variable messages.

The system can identify trucks that have already entered into the data system information such as the weight of the transport, so that these vehicles will no longer have to wait for access to the tracks with weighing facilities.

DRDP representatives say that the new system will also allow avoiding accidents that can be caused by the fact that trucks constantly occupy the emergency lane of the highway to wait for the controls at the border.

According to the cited source, a project to expand the areas with modular canopies is also underway in PTF Nadlac II.

Nadlac II is the most transited border crossing point to the Schengen Area, and here trucks wait in lines almost every day for the crossing formalities, sometimes the waiting times are as long as 10-12 hours.
